2022 Arts Leadership Award Recipients

Jackson Arts Council Presents the 2022 Arts Leadership Awards 

On Thursday, March 24th, the Jackson Arts Council announced recipients of the 2022 Arts Leadership Awards at the 12thAnnual Arts Leadership Breakfast, hosted at the Jackson Energy Authority Training Center and sponsored by Voya Financial.

The Kakky Tanner Award is presented to a local artist each year who has made momentous efforts to further the arts in our community. The 2022 Kakky Tanner Award recipient is literary artist James Cherry. James Cherry is the author of both poetry and fiction and is the president of The Griot Collective of West Tennessee, a literary arts organization that sponsors poetry workshops, open mics, poetry contests, and a Visiting Writer’s Series.

The Heart and Soul of the Arts Award is presented to one arts organization each year and seeks to recognize a nonprofit art group that has made a significant impact on the arts in our community. The recipient of the 2022 Heart and Soul of the Arts Award is the West Tennessee Artisan Trail. The West Tennessee Artisan Trail offers West Tennessee juried artisans regional shows to appeal to art lovers. WTAT members include local potters, sculptors, jewelry designers, painters, illustrators, woodturners, textile artisans, metalcrafters, folk artists, authors, and more.
